PFW | AVELON
During the last Fashion Week, I visited the new showroom of Avelon in Paris during and had a meeting with head designer Erik Frenken about the new spring/summer collection ’14. This collection is now available worldwide. You already saw an exclusive video about my experience at Avelon in Paris here on my blog.
Erik Frenken is one of the most talented designers of The Netherlands and I was very excited to meet him. He worked for Alberta Ferretti and joined Viktor & Rolf as head designer of womenswear four years before he started at Avelon. We talked a bit about our fashion studies, he at the Royal academy of Art and central Saints Martins and I at Academy Vogue and how it is the base for your further creative career and mindset. Avelon believes in ‘beautiful different’. Avelon shows high fashion but at the same time reality, when effortless meets directional.
The first thing Erik Frenken designed for Avelon was an edit of his own black skinny jeans with leather patches. This jeans we see in each collection in different variations and other luxury materials. This was also the first piece from Avelon I fell in love with a few years ago. By then it had golden zippers around the knees. Unfortunately, I never found it in my size. The style of the collection always embodies a feeling of understated luxury with a raw edge, by the use of leather, luxury detailing and contemporary design. This is also how the new spring/summer collection is: minimalistic but yet sophisticated with a lot of white and black and shades of nude. Erik picked out an outfit for me to wear from his newest collection. I loved this white ensemble.
